An additional environmental clue was also added by breaking the Timber Hearth tower's ceiling, to foreshadow the Ash Twin tower and hint that a broken ceiling doesn't prevent warp function.

Later patches added more of the ceiling and obviously lit alcoves within the tower itself, that can now be used as easy shelter to reach the warp pad before being sucked out. However, this often led players to ignore it completely, as it seemed nigh-impossible to use due to the sandfall.

  • The warp tower leading to the Ash Twin Project is gated by the sandfall between the Twins and a broken ceiling, which prevented most players from casually stumbling upon it.
  • While it still must be found via exploration, it is now simply another door to enter rather than a tucked-away yet critical secret with no hints.

A later patch removed the damage and made it far more obvious, with a proper entrance and signposts explaining its purpose. The control room for the Black Hole Forge, hidden in the Meltwater District of the Hanging City, and the only method of making the Forge feasibly reachable, was originally highly damaged and tucked out of the way, and had no hints to its existence or signposts pointing it out, requiring the player to stumble upon it by mere chance and exploration. Now, many more details are added to make this revelation more obvious, with a critical clue now being that the Hourglass Twins share a single astral body.

Originally, the only clue leading to the Ash Twin Project was a single piece of text describing the towers having 5 alignments but 6 destinations.

  • Critical details of warp travel and the Ash Twin Warp Towers, held within the Black Hole Forge and High Energy Lab, were made much more clear to explain the concept of warp alignment and its quirks, all to allow players to more easily deduce the towers' destinations/mechanics, and also which one led to the Ash Twin Project.
  • Much of the clues and internal logic regarding the most critical endgame puzzle - reaching the core of Ash Twin and thus the Ash Twin Project - were changed greatly over several patches, some of which are described in further detail below.
  • The patch that came with the Echoes of the Eye DLC remedied this, and now the clue explicitly states the answer: the trails start at either the gravity cannon or the Tower of Quantum Knowledge.

However, with no less than 4 key locations along the equator, of which only two lead to the Observatory, and only one has a map explicitly revealing the trail, this clue is rather vague, and much trial and error was required to actually find the trail, leading to many missing the Observatory altogether.

  • To reach the Southern Observatory on Brittle Hollow (whose surface entrance is blocked), the original clue laid in the Construction Yard on Giant's Deep, and explained the trail to the other entrance started on Brittle Hollow's equator.
  • Author's Saving Throw: Over the years, some of the clues and puzzles perceived to be more obtuse by the playerbase are sometimes tweaked to be easier/more obvious in later patches.
  • On the other, it reacts to your presence, and the entire final sequence seems to reflect your memories to some extent.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is the Eye really sentient? On one hand, it exhibits no clear signs of communication in the slightest.
